Thank A Queen is a visual study of drag culture's contribution to today's pop vernacular, displayed through an illustrated series of posters.
From “tea” to “shade” to “YAAAAS,” a lot of the words we use every day have deep roots in Black Femme, Latinx and drag cultures. To gain awareness and start a conversation about these words in culture, we reached out to Merriam-Webster to turn this poster series into an awareness campaign with the goal of one day soon, incorporating these terms into the dictionary.
Together, with Merriam-Webster’s social accounts,
we created the first ever #dragdictionary week:
Thank A Queen.
Merriam-Webster’s lexicographers studied each word used in the campaign
and gave us the history, rooting these words in facts.
